I dropped a dollar on the corner It was the last one to my name By the time I figured out The trouble I was courtin The trouble counted me the same She’s gone (she’s gone) Was never nothin to it She’s gone (she’s gone) Can’t really say I blew it She’s gone and I’m None the wiser Probably do it all over again I made some cash only deliveries Its so much harder than you think It didn’t take to long for them to Throw the whole book at me and then they Threw the kitchen sink I’m gone (I’m gone) There’s really nothing to it I’m gone (I’m gone) This time I think I blew it I’m gone and I’m None the wiser Probably do it all over again BRIDGE: I’m lookin round for some redemption But that just seems so far away Temptation hanging round is such a better option Than to get down on my knees and pray SOLOS He’s gone (he’s gone) There’s really nothing to it He’s gone (he’s gone) Can’t really say he blew it He’s gone and he’s none the wiser probably do it all over again

Hello there miss Let me tell you this Saw you from over there Black dress and Auburn hair You sure look fetching All the signals I’m catching Tell me to break the ice Paint a scene of virtue and vice Just me and you Sunday afternoon Stay home and drink champagne Listen to records and watch it rain Chorus: Hey! Stay! – Absinthe and a spoon Say! Play! All my favorite tunes Ooh! La La! Pretend that we’re in France And do that Moulin dance Well that’s my line Works half the time A little flirty A little dirty Le Chat Noir Now you’re the star Let me complete the scene Avril, if you know what I mean Just me and you Sunday afternoon Stay home and drink champagne Listen to records and watch it rain

What’s my name? Sweet mama, what’s my name? ‘Cause you say you love me all the same Say you’ll sing it loud and proud, but you can’t pick me out of a crowd What’s my name? Sweet mama, what’s my name? Tell the truth. Please, Mister. Tell the truth. I can see through you for what its worth. Don’t have to put on a show Just thought you might like to know Tell the truth Please, Mister. Tell the truth. Step right up. Young fella, step right up Spin the wheel, take a chance, and try your luck Want a lesson on how to live? Some you take and some you give Step right up Young fella, step right up We’ll be there, good people We’ll be there Stand by you when you’re without a prayer You can cast your fate to the sky, but you’re never gonna find out why We’ll be there, good people We’ll be there

3 dollar coffee and a bumbershoot – ain’t no friend of mine Shake it left, Shake it right, shake it left, shake it right, shake it left – is a state of mind That’s how it happens ‘cause we’re living – in a city where the sun don’t shine Good times, Bad times we’re all in that bind – baby just don’t whine Attitude, actin rude, staring at your shoes – well we ain’t got time Can’t let the weather get you down – in a city where the sun don’t shine So don’t you worry you’ll know what to do – when you’re in a bind Shake it left etc – and you’ll be just fine That’s what we do to keep on living – in a city where the sun don’t shine

about

Champagne Sunday was recorded at Fromage Studios in Seattle and produced by keyboardist, bass drum and vocalist, Josh Wilson. Inspired by an end of the week “no phones, no errands, no chores” a true Champagne Sunday celebration, the album includes a combination of brass tracks, 60’s inspired New Orleans R&B, swing plus original and vocal instrumental tunes.

Special guests included Jon Hansen on the tuba and Annie McCall on backup vocals. Josh Wilson explains, “I think one of the things that makes this record new and fresh is that it’s a brass band record with female vocals and songs. I’m not aware of any other brass band around that writes verse/chorus type songs in the brass band format. Usually, they have a “chant” in the beginning and then the band takes over. We do have a couple like that on the record: Get Yer Back Up Front, Day Job, Big Strut, and One Manhattans. But, songs like All Over Again, Champagne Sunday, What’s My Name, Sun Don’t Shine, Batgirl, and Let it Slide are more Rock n Roll/R&B tunes with horns replacing the traditional guitar and bass.”

Like the New Orleans dish that lent its name to their style, Tubaluba combines the staple musical provisions of jazz and soul with the trinity of funk, R&B & rock ‘n’ roll into a unique concoction designed to make you feel like you’ve been transported into the middle of a raucous 2nd line parade surrounded by vocals, piano, drums and a mess of horns.
